Hello!

I know AS is not hiring at this moment, but I have got to talk to AS pilots at the conference and it was such a blast
thus making me want to work for AS!!

Due to time shortage on site, I have a few questions to ask here about AS!

1.
Could somebody please enlighten me how many days off are awarded when on Reserve?
Heard Southwest gets 16 days off when on reserve and wondering how it works at Alaska.

2.
How is the trip trade going at Alaksa?
Trip pick ups and drops going on actively and frequently?

3.
How junior is LAX base?
How long does it take to be a line holder thesedays?

Thank you for your information in advance!

12 days off for RSV in a 30 day period, 13 days off in a 31 day period. Everyone is LC unless you bid for a SC. LC is 14 hr callout, SC is 2.5 hr callout.

2. Can't speak for FO's, but since PBS has been implemented, the Captain side has 0 open time. Can trade pilot to pilot however.

3. LAX for FO is JR, for Captain most SR. Lineholder used to be within 6 mo, depending on base, but everything has stopped. Hiring/upgrades, everything. VP of FO just put a memo out saying no movement til 1st Qtr 2025, so hope that helps.

Ill add to the pick up question, Since everyone is now long call it has made picking up on your days off harder since your duty now runs till midnight and then start a few days later at midnight. Calling on your last day and asking to be released can help. There is some open time on the FO side but its all mostly crappy red eyes and all night ANC turns, anything half way decent gets grabbed pretty quick.

For clarity... most LC reserves are convertable to SC, that's how they get the SC covered. I'd guess in a very slow month you might not get converted much.

Probably has more to do with boeing and delayed max deliveries... they staffed for airplanes which never showed up, and PBS happened to land about the same time. This company likes to run lean staff, so I'd expect OT to be available again eventually.

Well said, I second that. I've been converted every stretch of RSV days I've had since May 1st (PBS implementation). I used to only hold SCR, and I'm no fan of this new RSV system, but I have to admit I've had a few extra days at home under the new system. I do redeyes every trip now which I hate, but I do value the time at home. VP of flt ops email ****es me off the more I think about it. I don't believe the pilot group is the sole reason for crew cancellations. Addtionally, everytime I check the RSV list during the week, it's into the 2nd page. There are a ton of dudes on there, not on the weekends however (for obvious reasons). I got called out do to a short back a couple weeks ago, I had 50 hrs credit, and there were about 10 dudes that had 0 hrs. They told me I got called out because I did not select the N (do not prefer to work) preference. This is stupid in my opinion. I now have to go in there everyday I'm on RSV (I'm JR) and select that or I will be the high time guy over the course of the month every single month? Something is missing here.

No that's not right. Selecting no is only a tie-breaker if 2 or more pilots have the same amount of hours. If you were high time in your category you should be the last one to be called.

you should file a grievance if CS is not following to call out order. In the past they had tried to give me stuff when someone with lower credit is supposed to get it they say sorry you’re right and give it to the other person

Exactly this. Know and understand the contract and call them out when they do something outside of it. I almost always get pulled from a trip when calling them if they screwed up.

Thx guys for the input, this was Crew Schedulings reply:

"Hello!! Thank you for your question. I was going over our paperwork from yesterday adn it looks like this trip was assigned during our open time window. During this window we look at preferences and seniority. Out of the pilots (perfect matches) who did not put anything in the NO to OT trips, we would give the trip to the one with the lowest seniority. If you still feel this was done in error, please reach out to our management or ALPA."

Additionally, I did talk to the Union, they said it was correct. I still disagree, but I did read the section and he was technically right. I'll have to go fish it out again and read over it again. That being said, everyone should default to N, otherwise we have the problem I had. Thanks again for the input!

Just to add to this, Not saying you are right or wrong but there is a difference in "same day" vs "next day" method of assignment, anything after 10AM window of assignement is considered same day assingment even if it is the NEXT calender day. but agreed if there are guys in your same bucket with zero time thats BS, but has to be same category...

EDIT: I completely agreee its rediculous to update your preferences daily at a certain time of day. It should be a standing list that remains the same until you elect to change it. Although i doubt theres anything that can be done about that. would probly be responded with "thats the way we've always done it"
