Surrender = "Hurry up and sign any offer the company throws at us. It's better for me and these trips aren't going to pick themselves up."
Potato / Potahto.
This saddens me that you don't remember, as it was one of your most memorable ShyGuyisms. Let's walk down memory lane.
There was a rumor that the company wanted to offer scope to the pilots as an LOA, and it would be an industry-breaking 90 seat limit. You thought that sounded like a great deal, and the reasoning was something like this...
Truly, it was a peak ShyGuy moment for the ages.
The industry has held firm on the 76 seat limit for almost 20 years, the ramifications of committing 90 seat scope to writing would be catastrophic. We would all be pariahs.
History has shown time and time again that you have zero intentions to fight for anything, other than to try to convince your fellow pilots to feel as hopeless as you do.

"Having a 90 seat limit is better than having nothing at all."

Parity?
Years ago, there was an effort to seek parity across the industry in wages by equipment. What they discovered in doing so was that by seeking parity, no one was raising the bar and stagnation resulted.
Does anyone remember in the last round of contract negotiations when American went first and raised wages before the other big carriers? Later, they were passed by Delta and United and the pilots asked to re-open negotiations. Parker told them no, that they were the first to get a deal and as such raised the bar for everyone else and that they would do so again the next time around. Even Parker, Mr. East vs. West, gets it, that in negotiations you raise the bar: yet, you guys at Alaska are seeking only parity.
So, just to reiterate, Parker, Mr East VS West, the Lorenzo of our generation, says you raise the bar in negotiations and your Benito says you guys deserve nothing better than 6th. And they say American is toxic.
When you negotiate and ask for reasonable, you settle for less than reasonable. No wonder you guys are bringing up the rear.

Last time I posted the Spotify link to our podcast I got hate mail from some of the Kool aid drinkers.

Yeah, well, I can promise you ain’t nobody from management is recruiting prospective pilots by handing them a contract and saying “You do your homework and let us know if you find a better contract or pilot/management relationship in the industry.”
