I think a better question is how long should one expect to be on reserve as a captain. Provided you take the first available

at Bases where new hires are going… usually LA and SEA, expect 3-6 months on reserve if hiring continues. But that can all change when other things that can change change. Then it can all change back if something unexpected changes.

7-8 years would be my guess. That’s why the left seat is relatively junior, everyone knows how bad reserve is here.

but we have 4.5 year upgrades!!!! We are a growth airline!!!!! In reality if we had no by passers (or the normal amount of around 10%) the true upgrade time would likely be around 8 years (around 1700 seniority). I agree if you were one of the guys who took upgrade and your more junior then 2100 then I think 8 years at a minimum, possibly 10.

By whom? JL?
This is part of the problem with the prediction rumor mill. Some people think it's official.
Echelon wants us to take OTZ's opinion as if he's just some anonymous internet crank. But it all honesty, people treat him here like he's some freaking oracle.
He's not. He's gotten more wrong than right. And all his "news" is doom and gloom for anyone on the Airbus side. It's deliberate.

Are you complaining about how a long a guy might be reserve as a Capt when one holds it at 83% system seniority?

It’s a good thing for people to know if they are also applying to real airlines with real growth. You know if one is considering AS as a place of employment. There is no growth. So as a prospective new hire, one may be interested to know they are basically waiting on retirements to move up a spot. Which is caused by lack of scope.
Or maybe your Stockholm Syndrome is showing so badly that you’ll just jump all over anyone who says something truthful about your place of employment.

Grain of truth here... if you need the money more than QOL, and live in base it's an option.
But how long to hold 73 CA at UA, etc. How long to get off reserve? Maybe not too long, even on the west coast.
