For any outsider looking in, the post was again in regards to reserves and reserve flexibility. Once the final schedules are released at 9pm reserve pilots are quick to jump on the grid and change their days around. Every day moved changes the reserve grid. So yes, you do have to be quick as a reserve pilot if you want flexibility. Once enough guys vacate a certain day, that day will become black (break even) or red (below required reserves). Another key advice, keep an eye on the reserve grid. On reserve, I check it once daily. The reality is there are tons of guys getting released into both seats and all bases, especially LA and SEA. Every pilot finishing training ends up doing at least some short stint on reserve. They are given a reserve schedule and that changes the grid as another reserve available. Ala5ka, you probably didn't spend anytime on reserve at AS so the post probably wasn't aimed for someone at that level, but for someone looking at a "life at Alaska" with an interview coming.

No. I’m not complaining you vs me.. I’m commenting on your commentary for “life at Alaska” geared towards prospective new hires and basically saying look how great we actually have it, we get 11 minutes total in the 30 day bid period to fix the s*it sandwich management serves us
Im sorry, are you complaining while being senior to me? Step trading is a game for the senior. For the junior ones, we have to wait for the 9pm free-for-all. 3rd step was supposed to fix that issue and have a free-for-all live step trade process, but that is going nowhere apparently.

no, they don’t. Trying actually looking this time. Lines 362-388 in the last bid package say 12 days off. Every single one has a red eye leg. You have to go to 309 to find the first 14 days off line without a red eye. So between 309 and 143 is the only place you can find 14-15 days off lines without red eyes. All lines above 143 have 16 or more days off. With 21 being the highest, with 107 hours time away from base.
I do like how you said we have plenty of 12 Day off lines that don’t have a red eye ending at 6am. You are right. They have a red eye leg landing at 1am or taking off at 11:45PM. Like I said.

Like many of us here, I am not Seattle based so did not analyze the Seattle bid packet. 12 day off lines exist in other bases as well.

You know how to check the reserve grid? What base and RAP are you in? Assuming SEA, in December it looks like LC rsv have the most flexibility, followed by the 0300 RAP.
Pretty sure I’ve stated numerous times that things are not perfect and we need lots of improvements to Sec 25; in the meantime though I’ll take advantage of whatever parts of the contract I can to increase my QOL.

Yes. I know how to check these things. I’m well off reserve and holding usually my last choice in lines after I eliminate red eyes.
I think for October I got my 255th choice of 256 lines. This total number was what remained after eliminating red eyes via bidpairings. I could be wrong about the month but it was the last time I did a post bidding check of where I was seniority wise. I’m rapidly approaching year 5.
So after no red eyes and bidding time away from base to credit ratio for max time off after 4 years I’m getting 14 or 15 days off in SEA. Sometimes worse never better. I’ll go for open flying after those options and the last thing I’d do is red eye reserve.
I still can’t avoid the 3:15 am van show in ANC. But it is what it is.

They will just develop the routes until they’re big enough for a mainline plane. Nothing to worry about. This is called growth and it’s the only job security you need.

I know you were being sarcastic (I hope) but, there are WAY too many here that still believe this!
