Okay, I'll break it down... Let's say you're a CA at Whiskey on year 5 or year 6 pay. That means you are making more than you would if you went to an LCC as an FO for at least a year or two, and you certainly make more than a new hire FO or a DEC at a regional. And let's also say, you have zero interest in working cargo unless its FedEx or UPS. That basically leaves the legacies. If you are maxed out on your budget at whatever pay scale your at, that makes a pay decrease hard to digest and can often times be painful for your family or strain already strained relationships. So they are waiting for an offer to interview at a company that would be considered a "career destination". And you can say what you want about pilots living beneath their means etc, but we all know that sometimes life throws curve balls and has other plans beyond our control. So it's a crap situation to be in. It becomes a, "trying to get out but ready to ride it into the ground if I must" type of situation. When you look at the percentage of civilian OTS hires at the legacies, the number of jobs compared to the number of pilots seeking them aren't really stellar odds.

I think you're trying to sound sympathetic to our current situation. But really, you don't mind seeing AWAC go under.
So, the real question is, how will you personally benefit of AWAC is no more?

The writing has been on the wall that Awac might be in trouble back when PSA signed their contract back in 2013. Plenty of time I would think to save enough money for a LCC/ACMI move, which is what many Awac CA's have done. Some unfortunately still have their heads in the sand on what is happening there.

Year 6 pay is $80/hr at Awac. Yr 2 pay is more than that at Jet Blue, WN, Allegiant, etc.
