This does make me worried, especially due to the fact that the retention bonuses are May and Oct 2017 only, and all bonuses can be increased by the company.
At some point, the pay/bonus should be enough to at least attract a few new hires and keep some from leaving just for the paycheck. I'm not sure how high they will have to go though.

Without news or information about your future this is a slap in the face.

Wow really splurged on the bonus there. I hope the guys on the fence of this place know that they are taxed usually around 35-40%. Only gonna see 700 ish of that after taxes. It's basically stop the bleeding money til 2018. Not attract new guy money

This keeps getting put out there with no proof to back it up.
What they need to do is get a waiver from the FAA to get our flight attendants cross-trained as first officers. They can pull gear and flaps, plus work the radios.

One thing I don't understand about the new LOA is the tiered bonus in May and Oct. Why am I only worth 3k in May but 5k in Oct? Is being on property in Oct going to be a 2k harder question for me and my family to answer ? If we were to stay in business , we'd be worth the same in May or Oct.
On the other side of things. With a 5k hire bonus, 3k in May, 5k in Oct (minimum,as per the LOA, could be more up to the company) , and more than likely an increase in year 1 FO pay to 36-40$/HR would put first year compensation around 49-53k$. With that and some announced flying maybe we could get some new hires and start moving the list.

If my math is correct, 40% tax rate as you suggest would mean you'd see $900. If you're going to be mad about taxes at least get the figures right.
