That and you know, to recruit pilots otherwise bound for the top paying regionals...
I've noticed many PDT pilots hanging out in the crew rooms a lot. I guess they don't fly much.

It blows my mind how we have any FOs left. If I were still an FO I'd be long gone by now, even now as a junior CA it's tempting to abandon this sinking ship. Wonder how many FOs will leave now with these new pay rates at the WO?? This company better do something quick or it'll be too late

We have many FOs bailing because of lengthy upgrade times and an unknown future is just less than a year an a half. As for health insurance and other benefits, the health care is very good. Our flight benefits are no longer good but bearable.
As a RSV FO, you're guaranteed 12 days off a month and from I've been shown, there's plenty of open time. I have found our training dept is willing and will do whatever they can, within reason, to help a new hire get through training
The only drawback is the uncertain future.

But you'll only be here 6-12 months before being picked up by a major... Haven't seen any of the F-18 guys that I've met lately.

I'm not surprised our hiring is slow, but I think year 2+ guys have pretty good QOL and would rather try to move up versus move over, while there's still some time left. It only takes a month or two to move over, so there's no huge rush. Yet.

Don't even want to go to a WO, other places that are equally as good.

How is quality of life for a new FO? How many days off a month is realistic for a new FO? Is it easy to ORF out of training?
QOL for a reserve guy in Orf isn't bad. You'll get a lot of day trips and MX flights. Followed by a double deadhead back. That's kind of the downfall of being at a outstation base. You have to fly to a hub and then go from there. You'll see a lot of flights picking up where commuters couldn't make it to Orf and then get off and deadhead via Clt or PHL back home. Trips usually start before 6am and end after 7pm and the last flights usually leave around 5-6 pm since its a somewhat of a quieter airport. So both ends end up being uncommuteable. But the crews in Orf are great; they have a little bit a different reputation than the rest of the bases. More of a "social type" I should say. A lot of people say it's a big clique there with crews. You'll enjoy it if you live in base.

Thanks for the insight guys. I live in Norfolk, and my wife has a good job here, so we're not moving for the time being. I'm balancing QOL (living in base) vs. other factors (significantly higher pay, more certain future, etc.) at various regionals.

$55,000 first year pay, and $130,000 in the first three years.

Correct me if I'm wrong. $55K first year and $130K in the first three years? Before taxes? This results in years 2 And 3 ta $37.5K à year. So great first year pay and then a paycut?
What am I not seeing here?

I don't have any issue with that. But I do have issues when they just come in and sprawl out on the couches not leaving any room for anyone else

That was a typo. It is $170,000 in the first three years.

And yes, all pay is before taxes. But, you also get per diem, which is not counted in any of these. You also get $3,000 in hotels.
