I believe there is something happening. Here's why.
My FA this trip is on the Negotiating Committee. About a month ago they got a call, literally unexpected, to get their stuff together as the company wants to meet. They are meeting next week I believe for 5 day. Also there is, for the first time ever, a meeting with all of the FA IOE instructors slated for the end of this month.
I've been here 3 years and I can barely remember the times our NC and company have met. I want to say maybe 2 times a year? Maybe 3? This year we have met in May, have dates for July, August and September.
Finally the FLICA and the paper bid packets have a new line for "Equipment" on them. I'm not saying they are ours, but Bombardier did have a PR that stated 10 new -900s to an undisclosed buyer last month.
To me all of this doesn't add up to a place legitimately 100% closing up shop in 18 months. Why would you all of a sudden want to talk to the FAs and start TAing sections of the pilot contract and start meeting monthly? You would still be able to show "good faith" to the mediator by meeting 2-3 times a year as in the past.

Negotiating a sub par fa contract is definitely not a 100% sign of continued operation. Seems like they are just stringing everyone along so you will stay around longer and i think its working. An old, aging fleet,no growth, old wore out 200's and an expiring contract.....add it all up and it dosent look good.

If Awaw was slated for new aircraft they would scream and shout it from every source available to keep everyone from seeking employment elsewhere, especially with the pilot pool steadily dwindling.

AWA is in the same situation as CommutAir a year and a half ago. Everyone thought CommutAir was going to shutdown, they were losing flying and pilots. But management was secretly working on manuals for the ERJ145 and working with the Union for a new pilot contract, which was known. So AWA management could be secretly working on a new contract with American as well.

Unfortunately my company ndecided that they could do it themselves and a handful of people tried to write the manuals and training program... Of which during a ramp check at bwi the inspector says your company is special, there are very different people at your company that we are not used to in this industry.

C5 didn't work on the e154 manual prior.. What they did do is bring in a large contractor who specializes in the e145 and launching aircraft to customers. Everything was boiler plate and already previously approved by the faa...
