Yes, it certainly would... but IF this were to happen, it won't be overnight. DCA as an AWAC base is probably good through the life of the 2018 extension. What happens after that is anyone's guess.

Now I'm hearing all sorts of rumors like PDT might take over in ORD or another LAA hub, and AWAC will stay put. The people I talk to in the know are saying they have no idea what's going on now. If I had to guess I think it will come down to what AWAC management will accept. There are a lot of costs associated with relocating the operation to ORD, and with their long term future with AA uncertain they probably don't want to make that investment.
In the absence of a long term deal (5 years at least I'd guess) I would think the owners will not make that kind of investment unless they are forced to do so and I'm sure the contract with US/AA includes all kinds of contingencies like base closures and who might pay for this.

As mentioned, anyone who came here thinking the four bases we now have would be permanent is delusional. ORD was as much a 'fortress' base for AWAC as it's possible to have and ATW was open from Day 1 of the company. And suddenly everything changed.

Nothing is ever permanent in this business.

I could see ORF changing someday but that will take a seismic change at the company because they have a lot invested in the MX facility and finding a new hangar might not be so easy, though the MKE hangar is underutilized.

A mechanic in CLT this morning was walking around my plane taking pictures. When I asked him what he was doing ( I figured something was broken so bad he wanted to keep a picture), he said he had been told to take pictures of all the ZW aircraft he sees so they can determine which airplanes go to paint in August first. It made sense to send the ugliest ones first, and this is the first effort I have seen towards us actually getting our planes painted and not "in principle".

I'm sure there is some AW ones that will need it faster than the ZW, where will they be sent for paint? Shreveport?

Looks like we get AA benefits September 1st. Must list at least 3 days in advance. Sounds like I won't be using them.

MX control confirmed they are looking for the ugliest birds to paint in August.

In other news read in another post PDT getting a base in PHL, but I ain't mad. They have gates 1-9 and 17-23 or something. So they already have a good presence there. If they push us out to another base I will be happy to leave them Philly.

Only problem though now is a good chunk of our FO's I bet will go to PDT. Can't say I blame them.

Do we know if we can walk up and list for the jumpseat or do I take Delta from now on?

Take Delta. This airline (American) treats their employees like $hit so what else do you expect. They will probably make jumpseaters list 3 days in advance.
