A question for anyone out there at Air Whiskey -

I'm a C-17 reserve baby coming off active duty in the spring. I currently only have about 500 hours (nearly 300 multi turbine) and will probably be coming off with a total around 900 TT with 700 or so multi-turbine. Should I bother applying to "build a file" or just wait until I meet published mins. The hiring site is pretty specific about throwing away resumes that don't meet published mins. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Send in a resume! I know we have hired MANY with less time than 900TT, the biggest issue to get an interview is knowing someone that works at AWAC that will send your stuff in for you. It never hurts to start showing interest, though and keep updating your resume until you get the call!

Definitely send your stuff in to AWAC. If you have a buddy who can bring it in even better.

If you have high quality time (and I guess you do) you will be competitive. It really helps to have an insider here. But if you are interested in AWAC you should really apply. It is a fun company to work for (usually) and we have tons of great pilots who know how to enjoy themselves too.

Mr. (or ms.) Hatetobreakit2u,

It helps to have an insider. Find one. Also, a C-17 is the real deal. Not saying a dhc-6 is not, but somehow the C-17 has more clout on the ramp, and therefore on the resume....

Keep at it. We are hiring. You can do a lot worse than ZW, despite what you read here about us being 'bottom feeders'. We are nothing of the sort.

Whats reserve running these days at AWAC? Also, is ORF still the junior base?

Thanks

They are actually about even nowadays. There are very junior pilots in all the bases and the most recent announcements have DCA and ORF about equal in terms of junior F/Os.

For captains ORF still remains the most junior for RSV captains. But then it is hard to say.

We seem to be fat on pilots at the moment but they continue to hire. Attrition continues at ZW as many pilots are getting picked up by UPS, SWA, FDX, CAL, etc.

Don't worry about what you should or shouldn't be flying. I 'should' be flying MD-11s right now based on my past. But that was in the past and you can't change it.

Worry about being the best Twin Otter pilot in the world. Fly your time, enjoy it, keep your nose clean and keep trying at various airlines. Move to the left seat as soon as you can. Don't worry about what you can't control, just worry about what you can control - your Twin Otter flying.
